How It Started
a
story by aridafyasmin
“I
met him the other day in a café and then we talked for couple hours. And, you
know what? He is also working in publishing so we kinda into the same thing. We
spent hours talked about classic literature. He also seems very nice and
polite.”
They
both were sitting inside a coffee shop with two coffees on the table. Emma just
told Jake about the guy she just met and she couldn’t stop smiling since she
started her story.
“You
seem to like him so much.” He said while stirring his coffee.
Emma
shrugged, “I don’t know. Maybe. or maybe I feel like this because it’s been a
while since I’m in a relationship.”
Jake
broke his laugh, “Come on. You just broke up like three months ago.”
“Did
I?” asked Emma with her innocent face.
“Well,
you know you don’t have to be worry. If it’s meant to be, love will find its
way.” Jake said confidently.
This
time the laugh came from Emma’s mouth. She did it every time Jake came up with
his faith in love line, “Do you actually believe that?” asked her.
He
looked at her and smiled, “I do.” Then he sipped his coffee before it turned cold.

They
sat on the same table in the coffee shop that evening after work.
“What
kind of guy you’re actually looking for?” asked Jake.
Emma
gave him an odd look then she raised her eyebrow, “Why? You want to introduce
me to your friend?”
He
raised his eyebrow and giggled, “Do you want me to?”
“No!.”
she said with a bit shouting.
Jake
smiled and looked at the girl beside him, his best friend since college.
“I
am just curious. It’s been years. You’ve seen some guys but it seems like it
never worked out.”
“I
don’t know. It just doesn’t feel right with them eventually.” She sighed, “I’m
not like you who believe that your true love will come without you actually
look for it. That’s why I’ve been in a relationship with some guys” she smirked
then she added, “to find the one”
They
obviously have different opinion on how to find true love. Emma always thinks
that she will finally find the right guy after being in some relationship,
while Jake on the other hand thinks that a true love will come in a right time.
He just has to wait and when he finally finds the one, he will do whatever it takes
to get his girl.
They
both were quite for a while until Emma broke their silent, “Why did you ask
anyway? Are you tired of my entire love life story?”
He
grinned widely, “Of course no. That’s not what I meant. Well.. in fact, after 8
years of our friendship, your love life stories are my favorite. I’m pretty
sure you can write at least five dramatic novels out of it.”
She
laughed and swat Jake’s arm.
Then
Jake continued, “It’s just..” He stopped for a while before he finally said, “I
want you to be happy. That’s it.”
Her
smiled cracked, “I know.” At the same time deep down inside she felt grateful
for Jake’s company.
“and
yes, I still think that you should write novels from your love story.” Jake
added then laughed.
***
“Do
you know why I always call you when I got in trouble?” she asked when they both
met on weekend.
“Because
I am a good friend.” answered Jake.
“Yes.
But there’s another one.”
“What
is that?”
“Because
I know you will always be there for me no matter what. Even I have to disturb
you with all my love life drama.”
Jake
smiled, “So, what’s now?”
Emma
told Jake about her mixed feeling with the guy she met at the café. It’s been a
month after Emma told Jake about him. “He seems a good guy but he doesn’t
really show that he actually care about my feeling. Maybe he doesn’t like me
that much.”
“If
he doesn’t like you then he’s an idiot.” Jake smiled, “Well, how you really
feel about him?”
“I
don’t know. I’m not sure. But he’s a very nice and decent guy. For one single
moment I think that he might be the one I’m looking for. But now, I’m not quite
sure anymore. Maybe I’m not good enough for him. And honestly I’m tired. Maybe
you’re right after all. Maybe I just have to wait.”
“Look,
Emma.” He reached her hand and said, “You are a special girl. You are
beautiful, smart and strong. Don’t ever let any guy makes you think you’re not
enough. You don’t have to be worry. Someday there will be someone who will look
into your eyes and says he loves you like he meant it. And he will do whatever
it takes to makes you happy. And this café guy, if he doesn’t make you happy
then he doesn’t deserve you at all.”
She
smiled and nodded.

There’s
something that slip in that moment. The time he looked deeply into her eyes and
held her hand tight. That was the moment he realized. He finally knew why he
never actually looks for someone. Because he already found the one.
